Our mission -
TheatreLAB is Richmond's home for unexpected and evocative performance. Through artistry and imagination, TheatreLAB creates unique theatrical experiences that spark a collaborative exchange of ideas between artist and audience. The TheatreLAB ensemble cultivates an environment that fosters emerging talent and challenges artistic norms through experimental devices on new and thrilling works.
We at TheatreLAB believe that theatre is essential.
We believe that theatre is a collaborative art-form, and we believe that we must provide a platform for emerging theatre professionals to work in a safe, creative environment. Our company is made up of actors, directors, playwrights, designers, stage managers, arts activists, teaching artists & students who want to make a difference in their community while they are in the early stages of their professional careers. With seasons and programs rich in their stories, TheatreLAB hopes to create a vivid sense of reality to immerse audiences and allow them to connect in ways they might not have before.
TheatreLAB was founded though a partnership at Firehouse Theatre Project with the help of Founding Artistic Director, Carol Piersol, and Board President Kay Holmes. TheatreLAB's first session began in March of 2012. TheatreLAB became an independent, unaffiliated theatre company in January of 2013.
TheatreLAB is happy to continue its mission in its new home, The Basement. The Basement, located at 300 E. Broad St., is in the heart of the Richmond Arts District and it is our hope that it will become a hub of ideas and artistry.
