The Basement @ 300 East Broad Street
Planning Your Visit to The Basement
How to Find Us
Unless otherwise noted, all of TheatreLAB's performances take place at our home venue, The Basement. The Basement is located in Downtown Richmond's Arts District, on the northeast corner of 3rd Street and Broad. On the 3rd Street side of the building you will see a black gated exterior stairwell with a large sign reading "The Basement: Home of TheatreLAB" attached to it. Head down the stairs and you will see our bright blue door!
Access to The Basement
TheatreLAB's venue, The Basement, is located in a historic building in Downtown Richmond. Due in part to this fact, the building was not originally built to accommodate patrons with any sort of disability. As we have renovated The Basement over the past few years, making it accessible to all patrons has been at the forefront of our minds. Thanks to a generous grant from the Mary Morton Parsons Foundation, we now have the funding to become fully ADA compliant. With equipment purchase and permitting for installation, this process does take time to complete, so we appreciate our patron's patience while we round this project out.
FREE parking: available one block away from the theatre along Marshall Street, Clay Street, 2nd Street, and Southbound from Broad on 3rd Street.
Convention Center Deck: 3rd & Marshall (351 N 3rd St)
Cost: $7.00 per vehicle
There are a number of wonderful restaurants within walking distance of the theatre. Here are a few favorites:

Box Office Policies
General Admission Policy
Due to the flexible nature of TheatreLAB's venue, all seating is general admission. To guarantee the best seats, please arrive to the theatre early. If you have specific seating requirements due to a disability or condition, please advise the box office in advance so that your request may be accomodated.
Tickets can be exchanged up to 24 hours before a scheduled performance. Exchanged tickets are only redeemable for the same show for which they were purchased and exchanges cannot be guaranteed for performances that are sold out. Exchanges will not be made after your scheduled performance has passed.
Performances begin promptly at their indicated start time. Latecomers will be seated at the discretion of the House Manager for both the patron's safety, and the safety of the actors and crew. Due to the intimate size of TheatreLAB's venue, latecomers will be seated in the most readily accessible seats. We encourage all patrons to arrive early to ensure they receive the best seating available.
If a performance is sold out, tickets purchased in advance will be released to the waiting list at 5 minutes to curtain. To ensure your tickets are not released, please arrive at the theater at least 10 minutes before the show is scheduled to begin.
Discounts are available for groups of ten or more patrons, for seniors over the age of 65, for students with a valid college or high school ID, and for active members of the Richmond Theatre Alliance. To purchase discounted tickets online, place a regular ticket in your cart, and select the appropriate discount from the drop down menu on the following screen. Patrons must have necessary identification or proof of membership in order to pick up their tickets at will call.
We love introducing young people to live theatre. However, TheatreLAB produces plays that frequently contain adult content. Adults are ultimately the best judge of the appropriateness for the young people they’ll bring with them. If you have any questions about the content of our shows, please contact us at email@example.com.
We’re happy to provide additional information to inform your decision. In general, we advise against bringing children under the age of thirteen and do not allow infants and toddlers, unless otherwise indicated in the marketing materials for a given show.
Inclement Weather Policy
If the TheatreLAB staff is forced to cancel a performance due to inclement weather, we will attempt to announce through email, social media, and on our website no later than 2 hours prior to curtain. Exchanges for cancelled performances will be accommodated the following business day.
Establishment and renovations of The Basement has been made possible by the generous support by
The E. Rhodes and Leona B. Carpenter Foundation, CultureWorks, The Tomato Fund, the Mary Morton Parsons Foundation,
and all of our incredible donors.
