Given the uncertain circumstances of Coronavirus/COVID-19 in Virginia and beyond, as well as the safety of our local artists and audiences, TheatreLAB has made the difficult decision to postpone all activity at The Basement for the time being. It is our plan to complete the run of our critically-acclaimed production of The Revolutionists at a time when it is both safe and appropriate.
Ticket-holders are currently being contacted and more information will be announced as it becomes available.
In the meantime: please take whatever precautions you can to avoid sickness. Guidelines from the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) include: washing your hands regularly and thoroughly; avoiding touching your face; where possible, practicing social distancing and avoiding handshakes; and sneezing or coughing into your sleeve or a tissue.
We can't wait to see you back at The Basement!

Four beautiful, badass women lose their heads in this irreverent, girl-powered comedy set during the French Revolution’s Reign of Terror. Playwright Olympe de Gouges, assassin Charlotte Corday, former queen (and fan of ribbons) Marie Antoinette, and Haitian rebel Marianne Angelle hang out, murder Marat, and try to beat back the extremist insanity in 1793 Paris. This grand and dream-tweaked comedy is about violence and legacy, art and activism, feminism and terrorism, compatriots and chosen sisters, and how we actually go about changing the world.
It's a true story. Or total fiction. Or a play about a play. Or a raucous resurrection…that ends in a song and a scaffold.
