TheatreLAB Volunteers: Serving the Theatre Community

Volunteer. Helper. Giver. These are the words we use to describe some of the most important and powerful people to TheatreLAB.

Volunteers are the glue that help non-profits, like TheatreLAB, stick around and stick to helping their communities.

Sometimes with the hustle and bustle of everyday life, it can be difficult to dedicate time from our busy schedules to loan a helping hand. Luckily, the benefits of volunteering serve not only the community, but the amazing volunteer as well! Volunteering has always been a part of my life. I was involved with my church outreach program for many years as a young adult, and we joined in on so many projects: working in soup kitchens, making sandwiches for the homeless, stocking food pantries, building houses with Habitat for Humanity, collecting gifts during the holidays, and so many other things. I met countless new friends, some of which have lasted a lifetime, and I also made an impact on my community.

I was hooked!

Hooked on helping!

Hooked on being proud of the work I was doing.

A little over three years ago, I moved back to Richmond and found an organization I knew I wanted to join: TheatreLAB. This organization is the best of both worlds to me. Not only am I able to meet new folks, but I am benefiting my community by creating something I love so much: theatre.

TheatreLAB is an organization that values me, and anyone who steps into The Basement is equally valued. Whether it is our staff, volunteers, or patrons, we all feel like we are doing something good for our community. Our amazing new CompanyArtists will be creating hilarious and profound works at TheatreLAB, which will continue to expand both our impact and our family! And I am so proud to be a part of that.

I, Maggie Bavolack, would like to invite you, YES YOU!, to be a part of that volunteer family. Whether you can donate an entire day of your time, an hour, or even just a quick Facebook shout out, do it! Not only will you be helping TheatreLAB, but you will be helping to shape and grow our community.

Thank you so much for your continuing support of TheatreLAB, and we hope to see you all very soon at The Basement!
